During my junior fall semester at Harvard, I took CS 171: Visualization. This course taught key design principles and techniques for visualizing data. We learned to create web-based interactive visualizations using JavaScript and the D3 library. For the final project, my team of four set out to create a unique, informative site that provides both context and new insights into Reddit. To do so, we developed original visualizations to showcase a 24 hour snapshot of Reddit.

As “the front page of the internet,” Reddit represents a vast, diverse group of users. Popular subreddits span technology, relationships, sports, cooking, politics, and many other topics. We aim to show the common features of Reddit comments and how Reddit has evolved over time.
