We're more connected than ever—thousands of followers, endless group chats, algorithm-curated communities at our fingertips. So why does it feel like we're more isolated and divided than before? This piece explores how digital networks might be increasing societal entropy: making it effortless to find our tribes while quietly eroding the cross-cutting connections that hold society together. Drawing on Robert Putnam's "Bowling Alone" and the physics of disorder, I argue we're not just losing third spaces—we're losing the ability to bridge across difference.
